Hardball Kit

This kit list outlines the required and recommended red-ball cricket equipment for all Horsham Trinity CC junior players (U11 mixed/boys teams and above and U12 Girls). Please ensure all kit fits correctly to ensure safety and

comfort.

Mandatory Red-Ball Kit (Boys & Girls)

• Cricket bat (appropriate junior size)

• Batting pads (leg guards)

• Batting gloves

• Helmet with face guard (mandatory for under 18s) and now with a Stem Guard (new rules being brought in for 2026 by ECB and Sussex make Stem Guards mandatory for all u18 playing hard ball cricket).

• Abdominal guard / box (for boys; optional for girls)

• Wicketkeeping pads and gloves (keepers only)

• Cricket bag

Optional / Non-Mandatory Items

• Thigh guard or combination thigh pad

Choosing the Right Kit

When purchasing online, check the size guides carefully and prioritise safety and fit over brand or appearance. Ill-fitting equipment can increase injury risk and make playing uncomfortable.

• Pads should cover from the top of the shoe with the knee padding fitted onto the knee cap.

• Gloves should fit snugly.

• Helmets should sit level across the eyebrows and not wobble.

• Shoes: spikes for grass, rubber soles for artificial wickets.

Choosing a Cricket Bat

• A correctly sized bat allows a comfortable swing and proper technique.

• Avoid buying a bat that is too heavy or too large to ‘grow into’.

• Junior bats are available in sizes 0 to 6, Harrow, and Small Men’s – match to height.

• Kashmir willow offers good value; English willow gives better performance.

• The bat should feel balanced and easy to lift with one hand.
