Useful Information

New Team Manager

So you are a new Team Manager, firstly a massive thank you from us all at HTCC for stepping up and volunteering to manage one of our teams. This role is critical in ensuring the Junior section continues to grow and develop and all the children get a chance to play matches in the league. Secondly, it can be a bit daunting what is expected so hopefully this page sets out what you need to do. If you have any questions please reach out to Tim Martin or any other Team Manager who are on hand to support.

Key Responsibilities

The primary responsibility of the Team Manager is to ensure all children are happy and safe and loving cricket at HTCC. So it is part safe guarding, part coach part organisers. You will need to be ECB DBS cleared before you start and that can be arranged with the Safe Guarding Officer.

Organising matches - Each season Sussex figure out a fixture list for multiple age groups. You will need to contact each manager and confirm the fixtures including

  • timing, venue etc
  • team size
  • any rules or tweaks to rules to ensure good cricket
  • arrange a scorer
  • arrange an umpire
  • Uploading results to Play-Cricket
  • Ensure the cricket bag is picked up and taken to away matches
  • For home games setup and shutdown the club and pitch - parent helpers here are invaluable and many will help with this. A list of things to do:
  • remove covers and pitch rope
  • open up club house
  • get scoring table out
  • get score board out
  • setup boundary rope
  • biscuits and squash for the kids at the interval
  • chairs for spectators
  • work with the Junior Secretary on any matters for the age group

it is worth understanding "cricket" as you might find yourself umpiring/scoring. HTCC run an umpiring workshop and I would recommend the play-cricket app for scoring games.
